Case Study - National Phobics Society

The original request from the National Phobics Society was for a volunteer to network three PCs so that they could all access a database. After a false start with another volunteer, Fayzal Balu got in touch.

Fayzal helped with the networking and the database and many other issues. He's become a regular advisor to the charity and a valued part of the team.

Project Summary

The project involved networking 7 computers in the charity's main office whilst also assisting with general IT queries such as maintaining the membership database and also developing backing-up systems for data storage. A wireless network has also been established between 3 offices which has been extremely helpful.

Project Delivery

Fayzal Balu was recruited via iT4Communities and has visited the charity on over 10 occasions in the evening for up to 3 hours at a time to undertake the work. He has also sourced the equipment that was needed for the project and advised on the purchasing of other things such as a portable hard drive.

Lessons learnt

The project thankfully has gone very smoothly.

Outcomes

We are now able to access the internet and shared files on the network on every PC in the three offices that we have which has been extremely beneficial to all. Additionally we have been able to save a lot of money through avoiding having to take out 8 separate internet accounts with ISPs. The manager of the NPS has also gained a lot of information through working alongside Fayzal which has been really helpful with regard to the day to day running of the charity. Fayzal has now become our regular volunteer IT advisor and is credited as such on our website and in our annual reports.
