No more database headaches for arts charity
Client
Black Country Touring (BCT) is an arts charity bring professional touring theatre and dance to local communities in the Black Country. They work with community groups and people of all ages to give everyone access to both the experience of watching and being involved in high quality performance theatre and dance.
The challenge
BCT were using a database to manage contact information but it was in a poor state, containing duplicate and conflicting information. They approached iT4Communities to find a volunteer who could review and improve the current database, and train their staff how to use the programme more effectively.
Our help
iT4Communities volunteer Tim O'Mara
iT4Communities' volunteer, Tim O'Mara, was selected by the charity to work on this project. His expertise in databases allowed him to analyse their needs and then advise on how best to revise the structure of the database. The changes were mainly implemented within six months, but Tim continued to support BCT as they tested the revised system. He then provided training to BCT staff members showing them how to edit data and how to run basic queries and extract information.
The results
- The revised database is easier to maintain
- Database training means that BCT staff are more knowledgeable about how they can use it to their advantage
- Tim's guidance has led to a more methodical approach to the system
