Computer networking for schools in Kenya
Client
Computers for Primary Schools Kenya (CPSK) is a UK based charity that sets up computer labs in non-fee paying primary schools in the Mombasa region of Kenya.
The challenge
Children at Makupa Primary School
CPSK bought and installed new network-ready PCs and a range of software linked to the Kenyan syllabus. The charity also received the donation of Ethernet networking equipment but without software or servers.
CPSK wanted to network the computers of different labs to facilitate the teaching process. Therefore, Veronica Ashby contacted iT4Communities looking for a volunteer(s) who could fly to Kenya and set up the server(s), install the cabling, network one or more computer labs and give IT training to the local staff and pupils.
However, as the charity was not able to afford the travelling and accommodation expenses, the volunteer(s) who decided to work on the project had to pay the costs themselves.
Our help
The committed volunteer who offered to take the role as CPSK's IT Consultant was Vincent Taylor. He went to Kenya and spent two weeks setting up the computing systems in four of Mombasa's new schools. He also helped to load the anti-virus and educational software programs.
The results
- Access to computers and educational software for 2000 pupils.
- Computer literacy for the teachers of the Mombasa's region.

What our client said
iT4Communities made it successful by continually contacting CPSK for updates and information about volunteers. Vincent Taylor is
now a valued member of the charity. Our volunteer has proved to be enthusiastic and reliable. We are delighted that Vincent wants to
contribute to CPSK on an ongoing basis.
