Family Holiday Association logoEffective promotional tools for Biggest Pub Quiz event

Client

Family Holiday Association (FHA) provides modest grants to help disadvantaged families get a much-needed holiday away from home.

The challenge

The FHA was planning a major fund-raising event - the World's Biggest Pub Quiz. They needed effective tools to publicise the event, help people get involved and to communicate with supporters. They contacted iT4Communities looking for volunteers to help:

  • Design and build a website to promote the event
  • The flagship quiz event

Volunteer Allistair Crossley (standing) at the flagship quiz in central London

  • Create an effective front page for their Facebook account
  • Design a professional template for e-mail communications

Our help

Three volunteers offered to help FHA.

Allistair Crossley was very enthusiastic about creating a website for the event. Initially FHA weren't sure how complicated the site needed to be, but Allistair was keen to use his skills to the full and developed a site which not only publicised the event but also included all the resources quiz organisers would need.

FHA had a good idea of how they wanted their Facebook page to look. Volunteer John Tang liaised with them on the phone and via e-mail and gradually implemented the features they needed. He found that regular communication with FHA helped manage their expectations.

Regular iT4C volunteer Brian Green offered to help with an e-mail template. Rather than simply create a template and hand it over Brian worked closely with Jacqulyn from FHA so that she could learn the skills she needs to develop templates herself in the future.

The results

  • A fully featured website that acted as a focal point for the event. The site provided everything organisers needed to arrange their event.
  • An attractive Facebook page which encouraged many people to become fans, enabling the charity to keep in touch with them.
  • An attractive, clean Vertical Response template to use in emails creating a professional image for the event.

What our client said

IT4C does a fantastic job connecting charities with professional IT volunteers. We have always been impressed with the quality of volunteers and their enthusiasm. We have saved thousands of pounds thanks to this vital service and I don't hesitate to recommend the charity to others - in fact, I do so often!

Allistair was really enthusiastic about creating the best possible website for us. He is a skilled developer and we were really lucky that he chose to help us with our event. He put in an enormous amount of time and effort. We were pleased to award him our Outstanding Individual Supporter award at our recent annual thank you reception.

John did a great job on our Facebook page. He was very quick and understood our needs really well.

Brian was a knowledgeable and patient teacher who taught me a lot. We have a very good template now and I am much more confident about designing my own templates and adapting them for different emails.
