Volunteer gem provides invaluable knowledge
Client
Lambeth LINk is one of the independent networks of organisations and local people created by the Department of Health. It gives everyone in the London Borough of Lambeth the chance to say what they think about their local health and social care service.
The challenge
Lambeth LINk have an Access 2007 database which stores members' details and they wanted to extend this to record their members' views and opinions on various topics. However, the staff had only a limited knowledge of the use of Microsoft Access. Lambeth LINk manager, Kwasi Kamasa, contacted iT4Communities and requested a volunteer to show them how to extend the database and also show them how to create queries and reports.
Our help
Brian Wiggington has over 10 years of IT experience and volunteers with iT4C to make a contribution to a charity's work contacted Lambeth LINk to offer his help. Brian gave three training sessions to the staff to enable them to feel much more confident about their use of their Access database. By providing skills to the staff rather than just completing the work this charity remains much more self sufficient
The results
- Provided Lambeth LINk with training in various Access applications
- The organisation is able to use Access to keep up to date membership records, to write reports and query the database
- Three training sessions each lasting three hours delivered
What our client said
Many thanks for giving us Brian Wiggington. He was a gem with my staff in providing them with invaluable knowledge in the use
of Microsoft Access. The patience of the volunteer was the key. Excellent.
