Case Study - The National Pyramid Trust for Children
This national children's charity wanted to help to build a new, attractive website which they would be able to maintain themselves. Volunteer Andrew Kell worked closely with staff, providing them with a number of options for the site and showing them how to do updates.
Project Summary
To assist Pyramid in developing a new website that was user friendly, visually attractive and easily updated by Pyramid staff. This involved examining Pyramid's existing website alongside other charity sites, agreeing on a new style, advising on which software to use and its cost, designing, developing and implementing the new website and finally training and handing over the site to a member of Pyramid staff.
Project Delivery
Andrew was fantastic and did a lot of background work alongside Suzy Davis (Pyramid Fundraising and Marketing Manager). He presented a number of options and all decisions were taken jointly. Suzy Davis and Bronach Hughes (one of the Pyramid Development Managers) co-wrote the text content for the site and Andrew made sure that the technical side worked before the site was put live. The redevelopment could not have happened without Andrew's enthusiasm and commitment to the work involved. We were extremely confident that Andrew had the skills to take on the project and we were in constant communication via meetings and conference calls to discuss options and talk through the best way forward.
How long did it take
Approx 6 months from initial discussions to go-live. However, Andrew continued to support Suzy Davis (who had responsibility for managing and updating the site once live) by email and telephone after this date.
Lessons learnt
The commitment of Andrew Kell was the overriding key factor in the success of this project. His work and commitment was internally acknowledged at the Pyramid National Co-ordinators' Forum in Nov 2006, when he was presented with an engraved crystal Pyramid and certificate.
Outcomes
A new and easily updated website which is managed in-house (previously it was updated by an external person, which was difficult and time consuming to manage).
Andrew also helped us obtain free licenses for the salesforce.com database software, which is used to store subscriber information for the Pyramid quarterly e-newsletter.
