Case Study - Consortium for Street Children
The Consortium for Street Children provides support, training, best practice advice and information to organisations working with street children worldwide. They are happy with their website but find the bespoke CMS (content management system) restrictive when trying to update particular parts of the site. They came to iT4C looking for a developer who could help them get around the restrictions.
Christian Harris from the charity describes how he worked with volunteer Lai Chu to solve the problem.
Project Delivery
Lai Chu and I spoke over the phone several times on our requirements and the CMS system the CSC uses. Once we were clear on what was needed subsequent communication took place via e-mail.
Time Taken
The entire project took about 3 weeks. Lai Chu did an excellent job and worked on the project at home with his free time. The entire project may have taken up to an estimated 8 hours of continuous work.
Lessons learnt
I think the project went very smoothly. Questions on the system were resolved either through myself or through the proactive action of Lai. I believe that the project is a model for utilising volunteers with minimum inconvenience to them.
Outcomes
We were able to update our website without having to hire a web developer. Our sponsors are now much more visible on our website.
