As a registered iT4Communities volunteer you have already taken the first step towards extending your professional expertise into the sector which helps your own and other communities through pro bono work. But have you had time to do any actual volunteering? Many of us (including the iT4C team itself) have IT related jobs which occupy more than 100% of available time (assuming most people like to see their friends and their children occasionally!). We will soon be introducing ways you can do just a little for an organisation (we used to call these quickies but we decided this might produce more laughter than actions...) but this is a few months away.
So, having decided you don't have time at moment, what else can you do? Here are some ideas -
- Tell your friends and colleagues in IT - either forward our newsletter email with a note about us or just talk to them
- Tell the boss - ask your management to consider encouraging your colleagues to volunteer more in - (http://www.it4communities.org.uk/it4c/company/index.jsp) or just put the right person in touch with John Davies via info@iT4Communities.org.uk
- Mention us in any forum you contribute where we might be relevant.
- If you are a blogger with an audience then tell us about it and mention us once in a while
- Get hold of our flyers and other material - and post it where it might be seen by fellow IT professionals - either electronically or old-fashioned paper - contact Tam Williams via info@iT4Communities.org.uk [or find the information they need on www.iT4Communities.org.uk].
