Opportunities of the Month

All the Volunteer Opportunities listed below were 'Available' at the time the Volunteer Newsletter was put together. If, when contacting the charity, they tell you that a volunteer has started work on the Volunteer Opportunity, please ask the charity to contact info@iT4Communities.org.uk so that we can assist them in assigning the volunteer to the Work Package. Once the charity has assigned a volunteer, the Volunteer Opportunity state will be changed to “In progress”, and taken off the iT4C website.

Please go to www.iT4Communities.org.uk, then Log in and Search for volunteering opportunities - for these and more ‘Available Volunteer Opportunities’. Alternatively simply go to each Volunteer Opportunity using the live links under the Volunteer Opportunity Name (you will need to login en route).

Volunteer Opportunity Name:Improve interactivity of website
Skill Type: Website
Region: North West
Locality: Manchester
Postcode:M15
Virtual: No

Description: This Manchester based charity works to address inequalities in service provision and policy for drug users and their families from BME communities. They would like to add more interactive features to their existing website and would like to work with a volunteer to scope this and start development work on the improvements. They would like to use a forum, to put their videos online and provide a map of local services so that they can provide an improved service for their clients. This would be an opportunity to demonstrate how online technology can be used creatively to help those who may be disadvantaged and how it could really make a difference. The organisation is very committed and enthusiastic about making this a large part of the way they work.

They are looking for: 1) someone to set up a donated Apple Mac and show them how to use it 2) to train the volunteers in basic routine maintenance to help with a more smooth running cybercafe 3) general advice and support about the efficient use of the computers and software Volunteers with experience of working in or running public access computer centres or volunteers who can help with the maintenance and set up of the Mac would be much appreciated. Volunteer Opportunity Name: Advice - Fundraising Database
Skill Type: Database
Region: East of England
Postcode: CB24
Locality: Milton
Virtual: No

Description: This Charity provides support, services and employment/training for young people and adults with learning disabilities. Some of their most successful work is running a cafe and a gardening project both of which they wish to expand and extend. They also have a project that assists the children and families affected by autism; using play therapy the children are helped to communicate with their families. Many, many more workers are needed as they could support at least 4 times as many people if they had the funds. Can you help them fund-raise? The Charity holds plenty of information about previous donations, about potential funders etc but do not have a effective database to make the best use of these. They are currently looking at their options that include buying an off the shelf database but also wish to look at the possibility of building one. An experienced database developer is required to help with their needs analysis and some advice and guidance about how to proceed. This person may also have the opportunity to help with the development or hand it on.
