We are hiring!

iT4Communities needs another Project Definer to join the team. The work will be approximately one day per week (working from your own location)- ideally spread over a few days as convenient to the definer and to the VCS organisations you would be talking to. If you are an iT4C volunteer then this is your chance to get involved in the core team which drives iT4C. The Project Definition process in outline is –

  • you will receive details of an organisation’s request for a volunteer
  • You will call them to discuss their needs.
  • They need to know how iT4C works, you need to summarise the important information a potential volunteer will need to know and summarise it in a concise way as a ‘Project Definition’.

You can see examples of Project Definitions in the Projects of the Month in this newsletter and via your sign- in id at iT4C.
We will also ask you to follow-up, re-contacting charities and volunteers to find out how projects are progressing and in wider research to improve our service.
The qualities you will need are -

  • Enthusiasm for iT4C as an enterprise - ideally based on having done some iT4C volunteering projects
  • Personal and professional commitments which you can fit around the part time Project Definer role
  • Persistence & patience in contacting charities - many work part time or have limited time in the office/at a phone or email
  • Broad experience in IT (ideally IT in the community/voluntary sector)
  • Experience and talent for getting to the technical core of a business requirement as rapidly as possible
  • Sympathetic and patient manner with the wide variety of personalities within the voluntary sector
  • Judgement and tact to say "NO" politely when appropriate
  • Analytical ability - to generalise about things as diverse as how to deal with a very wide range of our users and how we can improve our approach and processes to better serve our users
  • Combination of willingness to take direction from us "old hands" and confidence to tell us when you really think we are wrong
  • Willingness to work for voluntary sector pay rates rather commercial ones - £150 per day, probable maximum 1 day per week – small phone expenses paid (negotiable)

If you are interested please email a CV and a covering letter stating why you would make a good Project Definer to: info@iT4Communities.org.uk using subject line iT4Communities Project Definer Opportunity. If you would like an informal chat, or have further questions please call John Davies or Anne Stafford on : 020 7796 2144.  We will be interviewing by phone in early June.
