We finally launched our new system. It's at our old address - www.iT4Communities.org.uk.
We hope you like it! It should make searching for volunteering opportunities (we now call them Work Packages) much more powerful and managing the whole process of volunteering much easier. The active features of the site require you to be a registered user. Naturally this requires password protection so that only you can do this. You should have received a user id and temporary password in the last few days. Please change that temporary password ASAP - and take a look around the site. Get in touch if you can't log on and use our feedback form (also linked form the home page) to tell us what you think.
As a volunteer you have four main active functions -
My account - allows you to change your "My Account" details yourself
Search for work packages - allows you to search for Work Packages by Region, Skill Types and Charity Types (not many Charity have set their types yet so try leaving this blank if you are not getting many matches)
Requests for work packages - lets you see the packages you have requested
Assigned work packages - lets you see the packages which charities have accepted you to work on (this feature will need us to update older assignments manually so it wont' be fully up to date for a little while)
The answers you get will be in tables and you can click on the headings to sort the columnsThere is an informal manual which will take you through the new features of the site and help you make the most of it. Take a look and wander around the site and use our feedback form (linked from the home page) to tell us what you think.
The system was specified by iT4C and our developers, EMS (www.ems-uk.com). Our thanks go to Roman, Sly, Vasil, Paul, Richard and Lawrence for all the hard work. The entire team at iT4C were involved but our special thanks go to Tim Ellis who tested the volunteer functions and to Anne Donnelley who tested the charity functions and built our data migration tools. We had a lot of help in the early stages from two senior professionals via our parent organisation, WCIT. They were Pat Pratley and Chris Histed. The new layout and content of our web pages was first drafted by Paula Graham. And we would not have been able to do any of this without the continuing support of our Trust Operations Director, David Edwards, and the chief executive of WCIT, the Clerk, Michael Grant.
None of this would have any point at all without the efforts of iT4C volunteers. As we always say -"We just oil the wheels, the volunteers do the work"
