Description: This is a national organisation with local self-help support groups, providing practical advice and emotional support to victims of car accidents, their families, carers, friends and relatives. The organisation needs a volunteer to help with a website review, redesign and construction. The new site should include an online chat facility for victims, as well as family, carers and friends. The site should be accessible and user friendly. A virtual volunteer would be considered. Website

Description: This charity uses creative arts to address the issues around domestic violence directed at women and children. They run events and education programmes. One of their major projects takes them into schools throughout Greater London where they work with young people. They encourage the young people to use creative writing and drama to express the issues involved in a performance to an audience of their choice. They have also developed a "Top Trumps"-type card game that helps the young people explore the issues involved in domestic relationships. The charity would now like to develop a website specifically for this project. They have a designer working on the look and feel of the site and are looking for a volunteer with the skills to implement the site. They imagine that the site would consist of about 20 pages. They don't know whether they need to include any interactive features although they would like to include some reference to the card game. They're open to suggestions on how this could be achieved. The charity would like to be able to maintain the site themselves in future and have requested a CMS-based solution if possible. Website

Description: This is a brand-new organisation aiming to provide relief from hardship wherever necessary. Initially working in the Lambeth area of London and with a project planned in Ghana they are aiming to set up and run community centres to provide training and resources. They also hope to run a shared house offering accommodation to homeless young people in the Lambeth area. Much of their fundraising is done through the sale of artwork. The organisation has set up a basic website with a link to a site which showcases the artwork available. They would like a volunteer to help them achieve a more professional design for the site and to implement it for them. They would like to continue having a link to the artwork site. They are happy to maintain the site themselves in future if some basic training can be given. Website

Description: This Scottish non-denominational church would like a volunteer who could help the charity configure and test a new web site. The charity already has the content for the site in front page format, however they would like the content to be embedded into a clear and concise design. Once the design is complete they envisage managing the system for themselves, in order to add and change events etc. This would suit a volunteer who could create the site for the charity along with advice on setting up a domain and web hosting. Description: This is a small community development project working to support both developing and existing community groups and provide services to local people, e.g. holiday play schemes, community classes, etc. This organisation needs assistance with establishing a web presence to publicise their forthcoming work, play schemes, trips and classes. The website should be accessible, incorporate an email facility, an online registration form as well as a user feedback form. The site should also incorporate current newsletter and newsletter archives. Assistance will be needed in buying an appropriate domain name and hosting package with a view to self managing this aspect in the future. As content will be changing quite regularly, some training is required on how to update the site. Website

Description: This charity provides financial support to enable sick, convalescent, handicapped and infirm people to remain in their own homes. Assistance may go towards providing respite care or purchasing special equipment. In particular they aim to assist young people caring for older relatives and people with mental or multiple illnesses who do not qualify for assistance from elsewhere. As part of a refocusing exercise the charity would like a website to help them promote their work, increase their profile, assist in fund-raising activities and allow applications for grants. They have registered the domain names they require and have a good idea of the content of the site but don't have the skills in house to create the site. They're very keen to be able to maintain the site in future so are looking for a volunteer who can develop the site for them and at the same time explain how to do updates in future. They're also keen to discuss design ideas as the charity doesn't have a "corporate identity". Website

The company has a clear brief for a simple website of a few static pages that can be easily found online, communicates the opportunities that they have and is in keeping with their look and feel guidelines. They require help with the purchase of a domain name and a hosting deal and advice about keeping the site up to date in the future. Work Package Name: WPstrategy1374.1226 London, Thornton Heath, Surrey, CR7

This charity provides supported housing to single homeless people in the Croydon area. They provide advice and support to the tenants and also work with the local council to run a drop-in advice centre. In recent years the charity has expanded their IT infrastructure and over the next few months are having websites and intranets developed for them. The charity has 15 PCs on a LAN at their head office and 25 PCs at seven other sites. The remote PCs connect to the server using terminal services over broadband. They have an external support contact that they are very happy with. The IT co-ordinator has put together the outline of an IT strategy and would like a volunteer to help him to complete this document. They also have an IT acceptable use policy document that he would like to review and complete. He hopes that the process of working through these documents with an experienced volunteer will help him identify areas of weakness and ways of making better use of their IT facilities.
