The new website system has been in operation for nearly five months now and despite some minor frustrations, it seems to be working pretty well. (If this is not your experience please contact us and tell us why) As you are probably aware, as an iT4C Volunteer, you’re able to update your own accounts by logging in to the system with your username and password selecting ‘My Account’ and amending your Account Details where necessary.
Charities have also got the facility to update their own accounts, as well as being able to request new projects, view their projects and to assign or reject volunteers to a Work Package.
I‘ve had quite a few emails from charities and organisations in the last few weeks telling me that a volunteer has started work on a WorkPackage and what do they do now.
When a charity accepts you as their volunteer any other volunteers who have requested to be assigned to the work package are automatically ‘rejected’ (In the nicest possible way of course, all it means is ‘not assigned’). The Work Package state will be changed to “In progress”, the volunteer name will be listed alongside the Work Package details and the Work Package will be taken off the iT4C website.
If the charity does not assign a volunteer to their WP, then it remains on the site for all to see, which is extremely annoying for the next volunteer who applies to be assigned to the WP only to be told that someone is already working on it. A waste of time all round as I know from the mail I get from frustrated volunteers.
So PLEASE, if you are assigned to a WP ask the charity to go to the website www.iT4Communities.org.uk login with their username and password and ’Assign or Reject a Volunteer’.
If they don’t know how to do this, please refer your contact to the Charities Manual on the home page of the site or ask them to contact me, Nigel, at info@iT4Communities.org.uk or Tel 020 7796 2144 and I will be only too happy to take them through the process.
