Case studies

In each edition of the newsletter we like to feature one or more examples of IT volunteer projects. We hope that reading about these projects will inspire you to think of better ways for your organisation to use IT and perhaps ask for a volunteer to help you.

If you have completed an IT project with volunteer assistance we'd love to hear about it and to feature it on our website and in a future newsletter. Although all of our current case studies feature success stories we would also like to hear when things don't go so well. If you've had problems with a project perhaps others can learn from your experiences.

To tell us about your project please e-mail info@it4communities.org.uk and request a case study form.

In this issue we'd like to tell you about Learning Through Action (LTA). Before contacting iT4Communities LTA had an accessibility audit carried out on their website. This highlighted a number of issues and they decided that they'd like to have the site redesigned to improve accessibility.

iT4Communities advertised their opportunity and they were contacted by volunteer Ian Cooper. Ian was looking to practice his web-development skills and agreed to work with LTA. Five months later the new website was launched. Both LTA and Ian enjoyed working with each other - Ian has since become a Director-Trustee and continues to be responsible for the website.

You can read more case studies on our website and we have also recently added a section showing some example opportunities. This page shows real opportunities from our site exactly as they would be presented to potential volunteers. We hope that these examples will give you an idea of the wide range of projects IT volunteers can help with.
