Express Link-Up operate a social enterprise, ELUSE, which sells second-hand IT equipment at low cost or donates it to sick children. Hundreds of high-end PCs, printers and servers are delivered to their base in Nottingham where they are sorted into usable and unusable IT. Anything which can not be re-used goes to Medway in Nottingham, where it is broken down into metal and plastic and recycled, by disabled adults. Unusable monitors go to Pakistan where the screens are removed and the plastic cases used to make TVs. The good quality equipment is sold at low cost. They are a Microsoft Approved Refurbisher (MAR) and work with the long-term unemployed to give them training for the job market.
Express Link-Up also operate a children's charity. Established in 1996, with Carol Vorderman as Patron, the mandate of the charity is To provide new IT equipment and educational software for all 247 schools in childrens hospitals throughout the UK.
To date they have provided 5,600 PCs and laptops plus high-end colour printers and software to hospital schools. In addition 2,400 refurbished high-end PCs have been delivered into the homes of low-income sick children throughout the UK.
