IT Volunteering Awards

2008 trophy

We are thrilled to announce details of the National IT Volunteering Awards 2008. The Awards will recognise and celebrate the UK's best and most successful IT volunteering projects and we are inviting nominations from your organisation.

The awards are supported by the British Computer Society (BCS) and appiChar, a leading IT consultancy to the Not for Profit Sector.

The winners will be announced at an Awards Ceremony at the BCS London offices in London on Thursday February 19th 2009, attended by delegates from both the IT and charitable sectors. The winning charities will each get a £500 prize as well as national recognition for IT excellence.

Charities and volunteers can nominate via the iT4Communities website in any or all of the four categories:

  • Best IT Volunteer
  • Best IT Volunteering Project - Impact on Organisations
  • Best IT Volunteering Project - Innovation
  • Best Accessible IT Volunteering Project
The 2007 winners

The closing date for entries is 19th December 2008.

This is the third annual awards and the winners last year included a social networking internet site for people with mental health problems for Sevenoaks Area Mind and a secure online meeting space for staff of Halifax charity, 1Voice.

John Davies, iT4Communities Programme Manager, said: IT volunteers make a huge difference to the charities who need their expert help. Without volunteer support many organisations cannot afford IT expertise and suffer on the wrong side of the digital divide. iT4Communities' volunteers alone have delivered over £3.25 million worth of IT help to the charity sector and it is vital our Awards recognise the very best of all IT volunteering in the UK.
