Opportunity Name: Zen Expert Needed to Resuscitate Website
Skill Type: Website
Region: London
Locality: London
Postcode: E2
Virtual: NoDescription: This national charity based near Bethnal Green tube station promotes democratic education in which pupils have a voice and share real power in making decisions about their school and educational practice. They had a website which comprised a forum, allowed members to upload videos, allowed sign up and distribution of e-newsletters, and allowed staff to update the website. It used ZEN CMS and they think other ZEN technologies. About a year ago, the company that built their website and hosted it ceased trading. A volunteer made a back-up of the site including the database that supported it, but they've been unable to find someone to re-implement the site from the back-up. They have a temporary website with the same look and feel, but there's no forum, e-newsletter facilities, or CMS. They are looking for a ZEN expert who can: - access the old database for forum content, contacts, and video links, advise them whether the old site can be restored, restore it if this seems like the best option or provide equivalent facilities in the new website, not necessarily using ZEN. A CRB check will be vital for this role, please allow plenty of time for the charity to request this on your behalf.

Each office has networked PCs running XP and MS Office, and the offices are connected by a WAN. They've set up a website using Ning. They need you to mentor them to show them how to configure Ning, administer the "modules", how to develop the website, and how to change the CSS, to make it more user-friendly, and how to set up groups and sub-groups. The young volunteers are in on Thursdays and Fridays during the day. They're hoping you're a Ning guru, with good CSS, and an eye for design. They've built a few templates, but they need to be easier for users to use, to upload their work experiences.

They would like to migrate their accounting information to a standard package that will be easier to maintain and teach to new staff. It needs to an 'off the shelf' package, such as Sage, which they can buy training and support for. They want you to implement the package, help them set up the chart of accounts and reference data, and migrate existing accounting data and customer details. They also want to extract invoicing details from the Courses database so that it can be used by the package through an interface. They would also like some initial training.
