Things going wrong?

If we can help in any way let us know

Once you've decided to go ahead with a volunteer he or she will probably be keen to get started and you should try to give them all the support they need. They may need you to make decisions or to provide them with information. If you can respond quickly to requests it will help your project move quickly.

A successful outcome

In an ideal world your volunteer will quickly complete your IT project.

In real life things might take a bit longer than you'd hoped or you might have to compromise on the solution but, in the end, the project will usually be finished successfully.

When you complete a project, celebrate!

When you complete a project the first thing you should do is celebrate. Hopefully, your volunteer will feel like celebrating too. Don't forget to thank them for their hard work!

And tell everyone about your success. If you tell us we can use your experiences as a case study on our website to inspire other volunteers and charities. You might like to publicise your efforts in your local press. Let us know if you need help with that.

Thank you so much for putting us in touch with our volunteer, we would have really struggled to achieve what we have on our website without your help and that of the volunteer.

If there's something special about the project or your volunteer then you might considering making a nomination for one of our annual awards.

Problems along the way

Occasionally things go wrong. Perhaps your volunteer has other commitments and isn't able to finish your project. Or perhaps things change within your organisation and you can no longer support the volunteer.

Don't feel bad if things go wrong. Take stock and learn from the experience. If you think that the project could be completed by another volunteer please let us know and we'll readvertise it for you.
